The Webasto Group, global market leader for sunroofs, panorama roofs and convertible roofs as well as parking heaters, is investing over ten million euros in its plant located in the Upper Bavarian town of Utting. Over the coming two years a new and innovative assembly line for roof production will be created there. By implementing the plant supplied by Kuka Industries the automotive supplier is aligning its site with the future. “We have been manufacturing in Utting for almost 40 years and we want to continue producing quality products for premium vehicles here in future”, explains Dr. Holger Engelmann, Chairman of the Management Board, Webasto SE. “In order to secure the site over the long term we are making the plant fit for Industry 4.0 with a higher degree of automation.”

The whole Webasto Group benefits from the know-how and experience of the colleagues at Utting in terms of the production of sunroofs and panorama roofs. Many of the staff from Utting are regularly deployed around the globe. With a high level of commitment, they assist their colleagues in the USA, China and Eastern Europe in technical matters and furthermore support the establishment of new plants and production startup for new products. A further key aspect for the decision to invest in Utting is its proximity to the development center for roof systems in Stockdorf. Engelmann comments: “The close exchange between development and production is important in order to ensure that high quality products are created from innovative ideas. We can then reliably manufacture these products anywhere in the world.”

Webasto has manufacturing operations at over 30 sites worldwide. The Utting plant has been part of the Webasto Group since the end of the 1970s.
